Wandsworth & Battersea

Accident recovery in Wandsworth and Battersea.

The Wandsworth one-way system is the defining feature here. It moves a lot of traffic efficiently right up until something stops, at which point there is nowhere for anyone to go.

On the ground

Written for someone dealing with this now. If it is easier to talk, the number is at the top of every page.

The one-way system

A damaged vehicle on the Wandsworth gyratory backs traffic up quickly, and the one-way layout means a recovery vehicle approaching from the wrong direction cannot simply turn round. Knowing exactly which arm of the system the vehicle is on genuinely affects how fast it gets collected.

Where the vehicle is driveable, moving it into a side street off the system before we arrive usually saves everybody time and reduces the risk of a second incident.

Nine Elms and new development

The Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station developments have brought a lot of new underground and podium parking, almost all of it height restricted and some of it with access controlled by concierge or barrier systems.

If your vehicle is in one of these, we will need the building, the level and whoever controls access. Without that a recovery vehicle can arrive and simply not be able to get in.

Clapham Junction and residential streets

The streets around Clapham Junction are dense, permit-parked and busy with pedestrians. Access is possible but tight, and staging a long vehicle is often not.

As across most of inner SW London, an undriveable car in a resident bay keeps accruing charges while nothing happens. Storage removes that problem and keeps the vehicle available for assessment.

Questions

Asked here in particular.

My car is stuck on the one-way system.
Tell us precisely which arm of the system and which direction it is facing. On a gyratory that detail decides how quickly a recovery vehicle can actually reach it.
Can you recover from an underground car park in Nine Elms?
Usually with a van, subject to the height restriction. We will also need to know how access is controlled — barrier, concierge or fob — before we set off.
